Invest in Yakima
February 05, 2014
We hope you’ve seen or heard about our Kickstarter project. Kickstarter is the world's largest crowdfunding platform, and our film has earned $7,686 from 47 backers to date—it has been a thrill! (If you haven’t heard of Kickstarter, time to warm up that computer and visit http://www.kickstarter.com. Search “I Heart Yakima.”)
But now we need your help. Will you join us by investing in the place we all love, through a gift to I Heart Yakima?
Our vision is to build pride, to build business, and to build the economy. We have big plans for getting out the positive message about our town. Here’s how we plan to invest community donations in 2014:
I HEART YAKIMA 2014 PROJECTS:
- With your help, we will reach our $10,000 funding goal and premier the Jimmy Marble directed "24 Hours in Yakima." This film will be released at a premier party, featuring the first public screening of the short film. The party includes light hors d’oeuvres, beverages, and dance tunes by DJ/Mayor Micah Cawley on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at The Seasons Backstage. When we reach our $10,000 goal, we will create a second video which will extend the reach of our promotional and civic pride efforts. Both of these videos will be digital, with the intent of sharing them far and wide.
- In 2014, we plan to create an annual I Heart Yakima Innovators grant recognizing local programs that exemplify the values of innovation, progress and collaboration in Yakima. We see this as a year-round partnership that doesn’t just end with writing a check. Along with financial support, we will also pitch in to help our innovators with events, collaborative designs, and awareness campaigns. YOU can help empower innovation in our town. A $5,000 total investment will get the wheels rolling.
- We will continue our PechaKucha events, which feature innovators and leaders in our community. We plan to feature topics like farm to table, start-up businesses, philanthropy, culture and more.
- One of the best ways to build civic pride is to wear it. Our t-shirts, stickers and window clings are just starting to be seen in Yakima – we want them to be ubiquitous. Your donation will help us continue to create great Yakima "swag" and maintain our website, which facilitates visible ways Yakimainaics can show their pride. A $5,000 total investment keeps this side of our project running.
Our budget for all projects in 2014 is $20,000. When you give a gift of $100, $250 or $500+, you will be part of the first public donors to the I Heart Yakima movement. Choose to give via credit card on the Kickstarter page, send a check via mail, or contact us to discuss other ways to give and how we can recognize your generosity.
